INTRODUCTION: The Sustainable Artist

We hold these truths to be self-evident that all artists are created unequal.

Special, strange, wonderful, weird, talented, troubled, creative, crazy, different, defiant, driven, dangerous, loved, loathed, immature, and enlightened. All alliteration aside we are all these things and more.

Most of our lives we have felt the velvet glove of privilege and the backhanded sting of prejudice. We are familiar with everything from...You were amazing tonight! I want to buy your CD! Would you please play at my daughter's wedding reception? ... to... Tonight I want you to come in the back door? I want your people to eat in the kitchen? Please keep away from my daughter!!! Sometimes all in the same night.

In these troubling times filled with disasters, disease, and political reckoning, the unprotected independent artists and the art they create are in great peril. We have never had a fair and balanced music business and my fear is that without that balance true music lovers and creators will be forced to exist in a world that caters to and respects neither.

I believe that we must create a new platform for music discovery and delivery that balances the rewards. One that pays all the people who make the music but doesn't reward those who create music that no one cares to listen to. A revolution that demands that we pay the people who make the music we love. Fairly, Transparently, and Directly.

This is the first article that will be written to address the reasons, answer the questions and explain the concepts of what we are building. The future articles will be focused on these five topics.

Why we need to unite. Why we can't go on like we are. Why we need a platform like WeGet Music or something like it. How it will work for everyone involved both financially and creatively. How this will make us and the art we create more secure.
