Zanzibar 1st Licensing Round

Last month, Zanzibar achieved a significant milestone in its petroleum upstream sector by closing the Zanzibar 1st Licensing Round. Since its launching on 20th March 2024, Zanzibar has actively promoted its acreage and data to oil companies across various platforms. We appreciate the engagement of all stakeholders that made this Licensing Round remarkable. The Licensing Round, has attracted significant interest from major players in the upstream industry. We are currently evaluating and analysing the expressions of interests to determine the way forward on the available blocks. We recognise the significant strategic influence that Zanzibar could have in East Africa and globally on eradicating energy poverty (in line with Sustainable Development Goal No. 7), improving energy security, energy resiliency and energy transition. With this understanding, Zanzibar is planning to offer the available acreage to the industry later this year following the conclusion of the current processes. We would like to thank all stakeholders who have been instrumental in establishing Zanzibar as a promising hydrocarbon province globally and to the companies who have taken interest into what Zanzibar has to offer. ?We remain open to engaging in discussions regarding opportunities and exploring potential collaborations.

By the way, the review has not even considered our most fundamental design of the Zanzibar 1st Licensing Round: Flexibility of fiscal terms. Zanzibar aims to build a resilient economy for the benefit of its people through the sustainable development of its offshore petroleum resources, and welcomes responsible parties to engage in the Zanzibar 1st Licensing Round. ?? Just 7 weeks to go until the 16th December when bids need to be in! The Licensing Round offers a large frontier area with untapped oil and gas potential. The basin’s evolution dates back to Early-Mid Jurassic which is analogous to the adjacent prolific East African basins. The licensing round consists of 8 blocks of size between 2,846 km2 to 5,666 km2 situated within water depths between 500m and 3,000m. The blocks that will be offered under the 1st Licensing Round include Block 1-A, Block 1-B, Block 1-C, Block 1-D, Block 1-E, Block 1-F, Block 1-G, and Block 1-H.
