My colleague Erin Simon is heading to Busan, South Korea help advance the world’s first legally binding plastics treaty. This is a big deal.?? ? The challenge is big—a dump truck’s worth of plastic enters our oceans every minute.?? ? The coalition supporting it a global treaty is big and broad—representing the world’s leading companies (think businesses like PepsiCo and SJ Johnson who rely on plastic for packaging) as well as governments, NGOs, communities, and civil society leaders.?? ? And the positive implications of an ambitious treaty are big—ideally phasing out harmful plastics and chemicals, establishing product designs for a safe and circular economy, and creating financial mechanism to make it happen.?? ?
