We are excited to share the final report on the feasibility of developing tidal power in the Severn Estuary, a project we've been deeply involved in alongside Western Gateway and the Severn Estuary Commission. Our team was initially appointed in 2023 to review existing evidence and develop a framework for the Commission, which launched in March 2024 with us as the Technical Advisor.? ? Our Earth and Environment team played a crucial role in assessing the environmental implications of this tidal power project, collaborating closely with the Environmental Commissioners. How did you become an Aquatic Ecologist? Kim: I decided to pursue a career in fisheries ecology after a summer job during my undergraduate studies. I was sent to the coast of Ungava Bay in Nunavik, a region in northern Quebec, Canada, to work on an Arctic Char project. ? ?? What do you love about your work? Kim: I appreciate the variety and dynamic nature of my work, which keeps me engaged and constantly learning. I also enjoy the opportunity to work in remote outdoor locations where my “co-workers” include local bears, wolves, and beavers. ? ?? What advice would you give to newcomers in the environmental consulting profession? ? Kim: Take advantage of as many opportunities as you can. Embrace discomfort and take risks.
