The WRI #OceanProgram is officially on LinkedIn! We work to secure a future where ocean protection, sustainable production, and equitable prosperity go hand in hand. The ocean is our planet’s life support system - adding $2.5 trillion annually to the global economy, feeding 3 billion people, and hosting more than half the world’s species. ?????? Yet, overfishing, pollution, and climate change are putting this vital resource at risk. Which is why we are accelerating ocean action, bringing sustainability to the heart of ocean management, supporting policymakers with data-driven insights, and convening global leaders through initiatives. Follow our page to stay updated on cutting-edge research, bold solutions, and collaborative efforts to build a thriving ocean economy. ?? Let us create a future where people and the ocean prosper together. ??

The ocean is home to incredible biodiversity, all working together to maintain the delicate balance of marine ecosystems. This balance is not just vital for ocean health but also human health. #WorldWildlifeDay ?? Seagrass meadows, mangroves, and coral reefs act as nurseries for marine life, and absorb carbon, helping regulate our climate. ?? Healthy fish populations support global food security and economies, providing billions of people with essential nutrition and livelihoods. ?? Marine biodiversity contributes to medicine, used in antibiotics, cancer treatments, and other life-saving drugs.

Seagrass meadows are critical hashtag #BlueCarbon ecosystems that provide essential benefits for marine and human life: ?? Absorb and store carbon helping mitigate climate change. ??? Reduce coastal erosion and protect shorelines. ?? Provide habitat and nursery for marine life, supporting fisheries and food security. ??? Generate oxygen, for a healthier ocean & planet. ?? Blue Carbon ecosystems provide critical services to people who live near them, but are also a powerful ally in addressing climate, biodiversity and development crises on a global scale. [UNOC3] Starting today, members of the ocean community convene in Tanzania for the first edition of the Regenerative Ocean Week #ROW! As part of this exciting 4-day conference, the Ocean & Climate Platform, CNRS, and Friends of Ocean Action, with the support of Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy, are hosting a unique workshop dedicated to envisioning the future of ocean sustainability! ?? During the next few days, experts and ocean advocates will be gathered in Dar Es Salaam to discuss and outline what the future of ocean sustainability could look like. This work aligns with the outcomes of the consultation ”A Call To All The Voices of the Ocean” conducted by the Ocean & Climate Platform and The Varda Group in 2023, in which civil society organisations identified the need to anticipe the future of the ocean post-2030 as a priority. While substantial efforts must be made to achieve global goals set for 2030, now is the time to build the foundations of a long-term vision for the world we want to achieve. Stay tuned to learn more about the outcomes and thank you to all our participants for joining! #OceanSustainability #OceanAction #Creativity #RegenerativeOceanWeek #Sustainability — Shauna Mahajan Abongile Ngqongwa
