Solutions to agricultural methane emissions are gaining momentum — but why are they important? Methane is 84 times stronger than carbon dioxide over 20 years - meaning cuts to methane emissions now can have a fast and significant impact on slowing climate change. Key approaches include: ???Changes in livestock feed — Innovations like seaweed-based additives can curb methane from cattle digestion. ???Alternate wetting and drying in rice paddies — This method preserves yields while cutting emissions. ???Manure management technologies — Anaerobic digesters and composting help capture methane and turn waste into energy. ???Reducing crop burning — Alternative farming practices can improve soil health while reducing emissions from burning. A new?World Resources Institute?report details?25+ methane mitigation solutions, their economic feasibility, and how they’re advancing. ?? Read more: https://go.wri.org/NB3m8B

Significant levels of food loss and waste continue to have negative impacts on food security and the environment, and Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, which aims to halve food loss and waste worldwide by 2030, remains out of reach. Join us on “12.3 Day” 2025 to take stock of efforts and opportunities to make progress toward this important goal.? On March 12, IFPRI, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C.?will host an online seminar to?examine commitments and best practices implemented around the world; and most importantly, explore how to go from big promises to real, tangible actions to reduce food loss and waste.???? ?? ?? Indigenous women have long been the unsung heroes of sustainable land management. From seed selection to soil management, their deep understanding is crucial for ensuring food security and biodiversity. "Our grandmothers taught us which plants heal the soil. Now we're teaching scientists,” says Naiyan Kiplagat, co-founder and director of Paran Women Group, a network of 64 Indigenous women's groups leading land restoration efforts in Kenya's Greater Rift Valley. Ahead of #IWD2025, learn how accessible, long-term funding can empower women to share their knowledge: https://lnkd.in/exRyTBpT #WomensDay #IWD #SustainableFood #WomenLeaders #InternationalWomensDay WRI Africa World Resources Institute

?? Big change starts local - but the right support helps it go even further. #RestoreLocal is helping empower local restoration leaders across Africa and help them scale their efforts. To date, 21.6 million trees have been planted, 50,000 hectares?of degraded land restored, and more than 62,000 jobs created. As Africa faces increasing climate challenges, #RestoreLocal is turning grassroots action into large-scale impact across three of Africa's vital landscapes: Kenya's Greater Rift Valley, the Lake Kivu & Rusizi River Basin (Burundi, DRC, and Rwanda), and the Ghana Cocoa Belt. ?? New tariffs on Mexico went into effect today, which supplies more than half of the U.S.'s fresh fruit and vegetable imports. ?? Healthy staple foods like avocados, tomatoes, strawberries, and lettuce could see significant price hikes, hitting low-income families the hardest. Not everyone has the option to shop local, especially in places where growing seasons are short or farmers markets are expensive. But everyone can make the most of what they buy. ?? Agriculture has already consumed 40% of Earth’s land surface?? Now, rising demand for food, fuel, and fiber directly competes with biodiversity and climate imperatives to protect 30% of land and waters and restore 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030. As competition over land intensifies, historical inequities deepen. The largest 1% of farms now controls 70% of global farmland. There are solutions, but we need to ensure that these solutions are not siloed, or they can create unintended consequences. Crystal Davis, Global Director of the Food, Land & Water Program at World Resources Institute explains further in Alliance magazine?? https://bit.ly/3EMYNZV #LandUse #Agriculture #FarmLand Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) #Environment #Climate #LandSqueeze
