In this edition of WIB-RTP Leadership Spotlight, we are excited to celebrate Shonagh Russell, PhD, Sponsorship Co-Vice Chair! Shonagh is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Pharmacology and Cancer Biology Department at Duke University. She has wanted to cure cancer since she was a teenager, and that led her to study a B.S. in Cell Biology at the University of St Andrews. Through lab internships and industry placements, those experiences springboarded her to a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology at the University of South Florida. She realized her proclivity for project management there and was awarded an NCI grant, which led to her current role. During her postdoc, Shonagh has become embedded in clinical research and is now focusing on clinical trials to make a difference in patient care. In her next role, she hopes to continue mentoring and uplifting her team members and help them grow and achieve their career aspirations. Shonagh loves baking sourdough bread and playing backyard badminton and, currently, she and her husband spend their weekends trying to find the best pizza in NC.
