Hi Humans!
#Mindfulness in Motion on Friday!
Back from a pause last week it’s a perfect time to talk about rest.
I’m a human and that means sometimes I need rest, whether that is a break from a specific thing, a nap, or a total reboot. Humans needing rest isn’t controversial or unexpected, but there are times we all. But why? Why is rest scary? Why are we wary of rest? Sometimes it’s about being scared to lose momentum, sometimes it’s about not wanting to let others down, and sometimes it’s facing the space to discover or confront things we didn’t anticipate or actively avoid.
We know that not all types of rest are created equal. Over our lives we have to learn to rest in different ways based on what we need and what we’re able to get. Take sleep, for example. We all need it and we probably can’t count the number of different ways that rest is achieved. Depending on circumstances or age or hormones or environment, sleep can be gotten in different times, cadences, locations, durations, etc. And I’m sure we all have experienced the sleep that isn’t at all restful. Our minds or our bodies or our lives can be out of sync. Our mindfulness is powerful here to recognize the rest we need, be curious about what’s in the way, and accept when we need to get it some other way.
Not all rest is obvious from the outside. For me, psychic rest often comes with quiet. I tend to turn inward when I need to rest and restore. Often rest my mind while I putter (that constant but mild scurrying around taking care of tasks). If I don’t give proper or sufficient context to it, people may believe that my turning away is a reflection of them or our relationship. Instead of mindfully preparing for rest, I cause more demand on exactly the part of me that’s spent. Sometimes that rest also looks like brooding (and maybe sometimes that’s what it really is), but only I can know for sure. What mindfulness would be required to figure that out?
Mindfulness shows up end-to-end: how you notice and accept you need rest, how you determine what rest is required, how you create the opportunity or conform your needs, how you emerge from your rest so that it’s maximum benefit is experienced. How else does your mindfulness show up here? I
Let’s start at the beginning, as we always do, and see where the conversation goes. We invite you to join us for the magic that happens when we share space and thoughts so that we can all keep moving together, mindfully.
Join us this Friday, November 1 at 9am Pacific/12noon Eastern/3pm GMT/4pm UK to join the conversation.
Bring your curiosity and bring a friend!
