??Please like and repost?? Hi Humans! #Mindfulness in Motion on Friday! Calendar Crush season is upon us! As we approach the end of the year, the first thing that seems to get gobbled up is the white space on our calendars, along with the correlative portion of our available attention. What that means to our lives is that the demands on our time and attention go up, and the available opportunities to restore go down. Time to get specific and clear about what activities restore us, why, and how. The end of year seems to add volume and intensity which means that different activities may be needed. We may need to allow for different conditions to make it all work. Like anything else we do infrequently, we may need to give more consideration to the planning. And so we start at the beginning - what are the restorative activities that work for us in these times? If a restorative activity is in a ritual, what do you need to have or acquire to make it work? If a restorative activity happens in a certain type of place, what are your requirements for time and transportation? Do you need special gear, do you need a door with a lock? When pursuing restorative activity do you seek solitude or is it something you can share with anyone, or just a particular person. It gets overwhelming quickly, doesn’t it? Never fear - we have our mindfulness to help sort it out, get organized, so that our restorative activities are ready when we need them. Let’s start at the beginning, as we always do, and see where the conversation goes. We invite you to join us for the magic that happens when we share space and thoughts so that we can all keep moving together, mindfully. Join us this Friday, November 22 at 9am Pacific/12noon Eastern/4pm GMT/5pm UK to join the conversation. Bring your curiosity and bring a friend! #leadingleaders #leadwithoutpretense #leadership #livewithoutpretense #lifedoula #parentwithoutpretense #authenticity?

There are times when small talk is a big risk. "Small talk" is intended to help us connect. The Washington Post ran a Help Desk article in September (https://wapo.st/40LXL9B) encouraging us all to lean in embrace small talk (smartly) for its benefits. Danielle Abril's piece has great tips for the most season and adept, as well as the most awkward and resistant. There is a specific challenge in small talk for those of us who have unusually fraught or complicated answers to low-stakes and easy questions. How do we get ourselves into these situations? Because we want to connect. Because sometimes we wish/hope this time it will be easy. Sometimes we can have both! Conversational Parachutes (SM) are a social tool for just those moments. They are pre-scripted, well-rehearsed responses to the questions or comments that threaten your connection to the other person or the purpose of the conversation. When we prepare a parachute with you it's specific to you - your history, your needs, your authentic voice. Click here to start building your parachute today ????https://lnkd.in/en-kNM3X #leadingleaders #leadwithoutpretense #leadership #livewithoutpretense #lifedoula #parentwithoutpretense #authenticity?

Not many other phrases inspire fear and hope quite like the phrase “home for the holidays.” The extra emotional charge can work for us as fuel to connect, and it can work against us when we find ourselves in the unexpected fumble, stumble, and mumble moments. Sometimes we’re rooted in excitement, maybe we’re returning to a different time when we felt connected and safe and optimistic. Other times we may be wading through trepidation as we return to face the ghosts of our own past. So we stuff all the emotions into our bags and go face crowds full of people who are doing the exact same thing. By the time we get where we’re going there may not be much left of us to navigate the small talk, the inevitable questions that “should” have an easy (or right) answer but don’t. Whether you’re talking with your seat mate, the next person in line, or your long lost relative with a knack for bad timing, you may not always be able to escape uncomfortable moments altogether, and there may be specific consequences to responding with something snide or snarky. Enter Conversational Parachutes (SM)! A Conversational Parachute is a pre-scripted, well-rehearsed response to a question or phrase?that threatens to disrupt your connection to the person or purpose of the conversation. Whatever your holiday season looks like, I think we can all agree that there is a certain amount of awkward conversation that we are likely to encounter. Join us for this special live event Saturday, November 22 at 12noon Pacific/3pm Eastern/7pm GMT to see how Conversational Parachutes can help you turn conversational stop signs into speed bumps so that you can enjoy the ride.

??Please like and repost?? ?? Watch the time changes for 1 November and 8 November! ?? Hi Humans! #Mindfulness in Motion on Friday! Back from a pause last week it’s a perfect time to talk about rest. I’m a human and that means sometimes I need rest, whether that is a break from a specific thing, a nap, or a total reboot. Humans needing rest isn’t controversial or unexpected, but there are times we all. But why? Why is rest scary? Why are we wary of rest? Sometimes it’s about being scared to lose momentum, sometimes it’s about not wanting to let others down, and sometimes it’s facing the space to discover or confront things we didn’t anticipate or actively avoid. We know that not all types of rest are created equal. Over our lives we have to learn to rest in different ways based on what we need and what we’re able to get. Take sleep, for example. We all need it and we probably can’t count the number of different ways that rest is achieved. Depending on circumstances or age or hormones or environment, sleep can be gotten in different times, cadences, locations, durations, etc. And I’m sure we all have experienced the sleep that isn’t at all restful. Our minds or our bodies or our lives can be out of sync. Our mindfulness is powerful here to recognize the rest we need, be curious about what’s in the way, and accept when we need to get it some other way. Not all rest is obvious from the outside. For me, psychic rest often comes with quiet. I tend to turn inward when I need to rest and restore. Often rest my mind while I putter (that constant but mild scurrying around taking care of tasks). If I don’t give proper or sufficient context to it, people may believe that my turning away is a reflection of them or our relationship. Instead of mindfully preparing for rest, I cause more demand on exactly the part of me that’s spent. Sometimes that rest also looks like brooding (and maybe sometimes that’s what it really is), but only I can know for sure. What mindfulness would be required to figure that out? Mindfulness shows up end-to-end: how you notice and accept you need rest, how you determine what rest is required, how you create the opportunity or conform your needs, how you emerge from your rest so that it’s maximum benefit is experienced. How else does your mindfulness show up here? I Let’s start at the beginning, as we always do, and see where the conversation goes. We invite you to join us for the magic that happens when we share space and thoughts so that we can all keep moving together, mindfully. Join us this Friday, November 1 at 9am Pacific/12noon Eastern/3pm GMT/4pm UK to join the conversation. When your needs change or you need a change, make a change! You’ll be better for the small adjustments along the way. As the days are growing shorter and the end of year approaches, we may start to need a shift. A shift in the organization of the day, a shift in routine, a shift in priority. Check in with yourself and make sure you get what you need. Because that keeps you great.
