?? How do we protect one of the world’s largest freshwater basins from climate change and environmental threats? The basins of Lakes Tanganyika and Kivu hold 18% of the world's freshwater and are a lifeline for over 12 million people. However, this vital ecosystem is under immense pressure due to overfishing, deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Led by VITO, the ?????????????? ???????? project is tackling these challenges head-on. Together with partners like the Lake Tanganyika Authority, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Nazka Mapps, Enabel and the Nile Institute, they are developing a transnational environmental monitoring platform. This platform will empower local stakeholders to monitor water quality, plan climate adaptation measures, and foster cross-border collaboration. By combining capacity building, remote sensing technology, and local expertise, the project aims to ensure climate-resilient water management and safeguard the livelihoods of millions in the region. ??
