Behind the big picture. Behind the world’s first Lp(a) Global Summit—a landmark step toward changing testing policy and improving cardiovascular health #CVH, there is something less visible, but deeply powerful: #People. A global community of dedicated individuals - scientists, clinicians, innovators, advocates, and patients—who have given their time, knowledge, and energy to this cause. People who have spent countless days and hours over the past 3 months (it has been all put in a record time) cocreating, planning, reaching out to global experts, international patient ambassadors, policymakers, securing funding, and celebrating even the smallest breakthroughs. Elevated levels of Lipoprotein (a) affect 20% globally. They contribute to cardiovascular disease- premature atherosclerosis, heart attacks, valve’s stenosis… even death. One in five people are affected. Although it it genetically driven and currently has not approved treatment, there is a lot one can do to minimise the risk … before it is too late. It starts with awareness and testing to help detect early. This hasn’t been driven by institutions or influence. It has been driven by people—for people. Doing the right things right for the right reasons. The summit is about to kick off in a matter of hours. For me, being able to lead it and host it under FH Europe Foundation - a patient organisation, it is an incredible achievement. Personally- it’s an honour and a privilege.
