Markham District Energy Chooses Copeland’s Ammonia Heat Pumps for Historic Wastewater Facility How does Markham District Energy plan to revolutionize sustainable heating and cooling with their new project? Markham District Energy, in partnership with Copeland, is set to transform sustainable energy use at the world's largest wastewater energy transfer facility located in Markham, Ontario. By utilizing Vilter VQ95 single-screw ammonia industrial heat pumps, this cutting-edge system will capture sewage wastewater at around 5°C and convert it into usable heat at 95°C. This innovative approach significantly reduces carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependency, while leveraging an unused energy stream. The facility aims to cut over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, a change comparable to removing about 7,000 cars from the roads. ??
