??? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ??????: ?????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????? ???? In the political thriller ?????? ????????????????, a former ambassador is asked about what art he wants displayed in his new embassy residence. According to him, he and his wife have no paintings of their own to speak of, leaving only a Titian in the drawing room as a “donation to the house." While this exchange may have only lasted a minute in the script, OBO's Art in Embassies (AIE) Director Megan Beyer told ELLE Decor in jest that the scene "inadvertently erased ???????? ???? ?????????? ???? ???????????????????? ??????????????" in the?magazine's piece, "What 'The Diplomat' Gets Wrong About Decorating Embassies." "Unlike what is portrayed in The Diplomat, ambassadors don’t just decorate the walls themselves," wrote Elle. "The Art in Embassies department makes it happen." AIE's collection includes works by titans like Ansel Adams, Georgia O'Keefe, and Jackson Pollock, but also contemporary names like Courtney Mattison, Mark Bradford, and John Grade. Beyer ensures her team is constantly featuring a rotation of emerging artists, like Haiti-born Didier William, whose work currently hangs in the Switzerland embassy; Arely Moroles, featured in the Mexico embassy; John Paul Morabito—who, per his website, "engages queerness and the sacred through the medium of tapestry"—displayed at the embassy in Lesotho; and more. Eighty percent of any exhibition staged by AIE consists of loaned art, with the remaining 20 percent made up by about 1,500 pieces that have been generously gifted. Art plays a unique role in diplomacy and cross-cultural dialogue, amplifying the country’s “soft power” though artist collaborations in U.S. diplomatic facilities worldwide.?"A diplomat can only try to make you understand, but art can make you feel," is Beyer's coined phrase. Curating an embassy's art collection "is a way to have the ambassador... tell the people of that country who they are individually, as well as [how] that aligns with the story of America." For over 60 years, Art in Embassies has fostered cultural connections, showcasing emerging and renowned artists, and transforming U.S. embassies into spaces of global dialogue.? Next time you watch The Diplomat, think of how art curation shapes global conversations through creativity and keep an eye out for cameos of the U.S. Embassy London, built by OBO and our partners KieranTimberlake Architects, Sir Robert McAlpine, and B.L. Harbert International, LLC. ????? #ArtInEmbassies #CulturalDiplomacy #SoftPower #StateDepartment #TheDiplomat? ?? Read more in Elle Decor: https://lnkd.in/e-qnnAhg
