Maj. Gen. Michelle K. Donahue, CASCOM commanding general and the Army Sustainment University hosted the 3rd Annual Data Education Symposium, Sept. 18.? This year’s theme, “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Sustainment Warfighting Function (SWfF)”. Over 70 partners from the Department of Defense, academia, and industry gathered to provide input and feedback on data analytics, AI, and machine learning curriculum development and enhancement within Sustainment education. ? The symposium highlighted the importance of trusting, but verifying the algorithms used in AI and machine learning. The event consisted of three panels; military, academic and industry. During the lunch break, attendees were invited to observe the Pangea Demo AND Qlik Presentation.? In a speech Friday, Sept. 20, Maj. Gen. Michelle K. Donahue, commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, discussed the future of Army Sustainment within the context of Contested Logistics with over 300 industry partners and sustainment leaders. She emphasized a holistic approach to modernization and the importance of a comprehensive approach that includes people, processes, data, and technology. She echoed Chairman Brown’s need for an integrated approach to logistics, with efforts not siloed and effective solutions shared among different entities. Sustainment modernization efforts are focused on precision sustainment, predictive logistics, autonomous technologies, and demand reduction. The Army must have the ability to protect, preserve, and regenerate combat power on a transparent battlefield against a formidable adversary and set the theater in a land-based and maritime environment, enabled by dynamic decision-making, while conducting multi-functional and multi-modal sustainment operations. Army HR is an integral part of the Sustainment Warfighting Function. FM 4-0 is fundamental to understanding how HR Operations, outlined in FM 1-0, nests with the Army's larger sustainment operational concepts.

I concluded 34 years of service on the world’s best team, US Army. As the Chief People Officer for this 1 million strong team, I saw our team’s greatest strength on a daily basis, its people. Fantastic teammates in the world’s finest HR organization, Adjutant General Corps drove change across the force by melding technology and empathetic leadership. I will miss serving with all of you and cannot thank you enough. I am looking forward to the next challenge and opportunity.
