Precision Health at the University of Michigan is joining forces with two other U-M health-focused initiatives under the name of AI & Digital Health Innovation (AI&DHI). The new identity represents the initiative’s expanded services and its network of focused communities while reflecting a greater strategic move to unify research efforts at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and health at U-M. ? Together, AI&DHI and its core communities, including the Michigan Genomics Initiative (MGI) and e-Health & AI (e-HAIL), are poised to enhance and accelerate novel AI and digital health solutions university-wide. ? “AI & Digital Health Innovation brings together some of U-M’s foremost experts in not only the AI and healthcare spaces, but also in engineering, genetics, and more,” said Dr. Steven Kunkel, Executive Vice Dean for Research at the U-M Medical School, Chief Scientific Officer of Michigan Medicine, and Peter A. Ward Distinguished University Professor and Endowed Professor of Pathology Research. “We’re excited to see the groundbreaking solutions that result from these collaborations.” ? Advancing AI research to revolutionize the future of digital healthcare.
关于我们
We support Team Science approaches to solving complicated AI & digital health problems. AI & Digital Health Innovation, formerly Precision Health, was launched as a Presidential Initiative in 2017. Since our formation, we have expanded our services and formed interactive communities. With these changes in place, AI & Digital Health Innovation now represents a unification and enhancement of interdisciplinary efforts at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and health at the University of Michigan. In addition to our robust foundation in data services and secure computing resources, we provide research implementation support to strategically integrate and study AI models in clinical workflows at Michigan Medicine. With our strong culture of multi-school & interdisciplinary collaboration, AI&DHI will drive critical efforts focused on health at U-M and contribute to the upcoming transformative initiatives that will place U-M as “Leaders & Best” in AI for health.

#UMPrecisionHealth is collaborating with the Michigan Medicine Central Transitions of Care (TOC) team, and Precision Health Co-Director Jenna Wiens' Lab (University of Michigan College of Engineering) to evaluate 2 new AI tools that are available to help identify patients at high risk for readmission. The team will launch a 3-month quality improvement pilot to test the new tools in the local setting at UMHS; the goal is to test 2 new machine learning algorithms, HARPP and version 2 Epic Readmission model. Using data from this pilot, the study team will compare HARPP to LACE and compare version 2 Epic Readmission model to HARPP and LACE. Whichever model turns out to have the best performance will be used operationally at Michigan Medicine to support the Central TOC service by enhancing the transition of care from hospital to home and promoting optimal patient outcomes. Learn more about the evaluation in upcoming communications. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gArbBvGw #research #readmissions #hospital #patientcare #precisionhealth #precisionmedicine

#UMPrecisionHealth member Daniel Hertz, PharmD, PhD, (University of Michigan College of Pharmacy) recently received the inaugural STRIPE Double Helix Award from the American Society of Pharmacovigilance! This award recognizes leaders who have driven significant advancements in pharmacogenomic testing by fostering collaboration across disciplines, organizations, and sectors. Awardees were recognized for work that has helped bridge gaps in science, practice, and policy, accelerating the adoption of PGx, according to the ASP. This Hertz Lab project began several years ago with data and support from Precision Health. Using data from #MichiganGenomicsInitiative, he identified patients carrying DPYD variants to conduct precision confirmatory genetic testing. The results of this testing may inform appropriate fluoropyrimidine treatment to prevent severe, potentially fatal, toxicities. Dr. Hertz is active in efforts to promote testing for variants of the DPYD gene before prescribing fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapies. Patients who carry these variants experience severe, potentially fatal toxic reactions to the drug. Through publications and advocacy, he has worked to change prescribing guidelines to call for simple genetic testing to identify patients susceptible to harm from this common class of cancer drugs...
