At UltraFacility 2024, Glen Sundstrom shared how the UPMU Fundamentals course is helping to fill the knowledge gap new #UltrapureWater engineers encounter at the start of their professional careers. Glen has been working in the #Semiconductor industry for over 40 years primarily in ultrapure water. He explained that it takes new entrants between 3-5 years to be fully up to speed. Higher education collectively secured a decisive victory as the preferred target for recruitment. However, it was a close split between whether universities or community colleges are the better source of talent.? Trailing closely behind was the category of ‘other industries’, which received just under 30% of the votes. Recruitment is a challenge that must be approached from every angle to ensure that companies have a pipeline of skilled workers to manage critical facilities operations.? And yet the question remains, how can the #Semiconductor industry grow in collaboration with 2-year and 4-year colleges and foster connections with other industries?
