A HUGE congratulations to Supatirada Wongchanla aka Jane, who was the recipient of the 2025 Swine Nutrition Heritage Fund Travel Award at the Annual ASAS Midwest Section Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska! ?? This year, Jane was joined by her peers, David Zhao and Cynthia Sun, along with Dr. Yanhong Liu and Postdoctoral Researcher, Sangwoo Park. As part of her recognition, Jane delivered her Award Talk titled, Effects of L-glutamate and L-aspartate supplementation on growth performance, diarrhea severity, immune responses, and intestinal barrier integrity of weaned piglets challenged with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli F18. ?? Together, the group — a shining representation of the brilliance coming from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, had the opportunity to connect with scholars from surrounding regions, and exchange knowledge and insights into swine nutrition shaping the pig community. ?? We're proud of the great work coming from different focus areas at the UC Davis CLEAR Center, including swine research, and look forward to seeing many more accomplishments from our rockstar students. ?

Stewardship isn't just a practice for pig farmers — it's a legacy that is passed down from one generation to the next. For Randy Spronk, farming is more than a livelihood; it's a commitment to caring for the land, animals, and community he serves. See how one Minnesota pig farmer is making a difference for his family, his farm, and our planet. ?? ?? ??

Happy #NationalAgDay! ?? We're fortunate to work in the agricultural space, where valuable research meets real-world solutions. At the UC Davis CLEAR Center, we're dedicated to supporting farmers and ranchers in improving their sustainability on farm through innovative tools and practices. ?? ?? That means working with a rockstar team of graduate students and expert faculty like Dr. Frank Mitloehner and Dr. Yanhong Liu to conduct research studies right here on campus. One current and ongoing project looks at the efficacy of feed additives like Bovaer in the long term, and we are excited to share data points when available. Other projects delve into manure management practices, mainly anaerobic digesters and manure additives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and gene editing in pigs. Always happy to share more about the work we do! Visit our website at https://clear.ucdavis.edu/ to learn more.

Manure produced in pig farming is a valuable resource that is rich in nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Pig farmers like Randy Spronk, are storing manure in containment pits and using science to determine levels of different nutrients present. When combining it with a variable rate spread, they can maximize crop production and minimize waste on farm. ??
