The College of Pharmacy of the University of Arkansas was established at the beginning of the 1951-52 academic year in response to demand for well-prepared individuals in practical and theoretical pharmacy and interrelated subjects. The academic responsibility of the College of Pharmacy is to nurture an environment of excellence in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences with appropriate concern for the communication and acquisition of new knowledge through sound teaching methods and the pursuit of new knowledge through research and study. The Director of Research Programs serves as administrative leadership, strategic oversight, and regulatory compliance across the College of Pharmacy's (COP) research initiatives. This role entails coordinating efforts to enhance grant submissions, supporting major grant applications, and developing a strong research program. Responsibilities include managing research and finance administration, ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial standards, and collaborating with the Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies and other research units. Exciting news! UAMS College of Pharmacy alumni Brenda McCrady, P.D., COP ’86, and Lenora Newsome, P.D., COP ’80, were recently honored by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). McCrady received the 2024 John F. Atkinson Service Award for her significant contributions to NABP and pharmacy regulation. Newsome, as the 2023-2024 NABP president, received the 2024 NABP President’s Award for her initiatives supporting the mental health and well-being of pharmacists and advocating for workforce sustainability. UAMS College of Pharmacy recently hosted young researchers and faculty members from seven southern regional state at UAMS for a combined Drug Discovery & Development Colloquium (DDDC) and MALTO Medicinal Chemistry Conference. The event focused on "Bridging the Gap - from basic science to clinic" and highlighted the synergy between chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and bioinformatics in drug discovery. Esteemed keynote speakers included Dr. Pravin Chaturvedi, Dr. Gary Piazza, Dr. Shraddha Thakkar, Dr. Pankaj Daga, and Dr. William Slikker, with featured speakers such as Dr. @Dongying L., Dr. Tudor Moldoveanu, Dr. Leihong Wu, Dr. Mary Yang, and Dr. Darin Jones. The DDDC/MALTO Conference was expertly organized by the UAMS AAPS Student Chapter members—Baku Acharya, Saloni Sood, Finian Chimezie Nwadinigwe, Rachael Abolade, and Rand Albayati—under the dedicated mentorship of Drs. Darin Jones, Amit K. Tiwari, PhD, DABT, and Cesar Compadre.
