Honors College Dean & Professor of Political Science Alison Rios Millett McCartney was awarded $24,907 from the Towson University Fund (TUF) for the Baltimore County Model United Nations program. ?? "The TUF grant will enable us to connect students, alumni and the community in an innovative serving–learning program that helps TU serve local high school students while also encouraging current TU students to make vital career connections with alumni,” says McCartney. Nataly Loza is a senior, majoring in Psychology and Foreign Language with a concentration in Spanish. She is also in the Honors College. Loza is in the Psychology Department Honors Thesis Program completing an undergraduate thesis on the topic of language (bilingualism) and cultural identity. She is interested in learning whether language use, proficiency, and acquisition (age) predict cultural identification among college students bilingual in English and Spanish. Assistant Professor Alisha Reaves?is expanding French language learning at CLA by encouraging students to explore Francophone countries. “There are different ways to speak French and all of them are acceptable. By understanding that people speak differently in different countries, there’s an ability to empathize with other cultures and understand them as we interact with each other more,” says Dr. Reaves. Very excited about this upcoming talk from the Slave Wrecks Project sponsored by Towson University History Department to be held in Towson University College of Liberal Arts. The lecture is to tie into my TSEM in Ocean History offered through Towson University Honors College Every semester the students pick a shipwreck to research for their project. The sites studied by the Slave Wrecks Project have long been student favorites.
