LEGO Total Station update About a year ago I posted about a model Total Station that I designed and built entirely out of LEGO. I’ve since redesigned and updated it in a few ways that I thought I might share. ? Scaled it up so that it is now about as close as possible to 1:1 scale to an actual Trimble Inc. S7. ? Redesigned the handle connections. The previous handle design couldn’t support the weight and would fall apart. The new design is strong enough to carry it. ? Completely redesigned the tribrach and how it connects to the rest of the model. The tribrach is now much closer to the size and shape of a real one and it turns a lot easier. ? The yellow stripe was a fun challenge. On the original design I stopped it part way along the side, now I’ve managed to continue it all the way around like on a real S7. This is way more complicated than it looks and there are many pieces hidden out of sight to achieve this. ? By scaling the whole thing up I now had space to include a control hub, motors and lights! I designed it to turn horizontally and vertically and a light to come on inside the ‘power’ button. I even learned some basic Python coding using Pybricks and programmed sequences so that I could push a button and it would turn ‘rounds’. This would have been really cool but unfortunately when I put it all together the whole thing is too heavy for the motors. Between the weight and the friction in the turntable the motors just aren’t powerful enough to turn it. It still turns manually using the knobs on the side like a real Total Station though. I may come back to it one day to rethink the turntable mechanism but I think I would need to use a non-LEGO turntable with actual bearings (which all the LEGO purists out there would agree is cheating). That might be the only way to reduce the friction enough for the motors to turn it though. I did actually cheat a tiny bit already. There are two pieces attached in a way that is definitely not legal but it doesn’t look complete without them - any fellow LEGO nerds out there might be able to spot them. I made a minifig surveyor with a prism pole to go with it and it now sits proudly on the front reception desk at Tattersall Lander Pty Ltd.

Und das Beste? Dank der Punktwolke konnten Schadstellen an der Brücke effizient detektiert werden – alles auf Basis einer einzigen Vermessung! ????? So spart man Zeit und Nerven. Für mich ist der Trimble X9 mit seiner Software-Kombination das perfekte Werkzeug für pr?zises und schnelles Arbeiten. ?????
