Recent federal actions, such as Executive Order 14154, have introduced significant uncertainty for U.S. water utilities by halting key investments and affecting infrastructure funding. In this challenging environment, the #TrialReservoir initiative offers a promising solution. By providing no-risk repayable grants for technology trials / demonstrations, it enables utilities to adopt new solutions without financial burden. The U.S. Utilities Trial Reservoir specifically supports American trials that are conducted in collaboration with a utility partner led by individuals from historically underrepresented groups, or that serve a community with limited access to resources within the utility's service area. https://lnkd.in/d6sugNM8 ?? ?? Community-Driven Innovation: Lessons From Our SuDS+ Project At Isle Utilities, we’ve seen firsthand how community collaboration accelerates technology adoption – and our SuDS+ project in Stanley, North Durham, proves it. By prioritizing procedural equity – ensuring residents co-design solutions – we’ve transformed stormwater management into a catalyst for social and environmental resilience. ?? Key insights: * Trust drives uptake: When communities set the vision (e.g., prioritizing green spaces over purely technical drainage), adoption rates climb. Local partners like Mark Davinson of Wear Rivers Trust bridged gaps between engineers and residents, ensuring designs aligned with lived experiences. * Early engagement = long-term success: 5 years of co-creation with Durham County Council and Northumbrian Water yielded not just rain gardens, but ownership. As Caitlin Rogers (Isle’s Head of Environmental Innovation) notes: “It’s about letting communities map their own futures”. * Equity isn’t optional: Distributive equity (fair access) and design equity (inclusive systems) are non-negotiable for scalable solutions. ? ?? Now applying these principles to US utilities through our #TrialReservoir initiative. How is your organization embedding community voices in tech design? ?? https://lnkd.in/e_K8jjV8 #SustainableTech #CommunityLedInnovation #WaterEquity

We are THRILLED to see Climate Change Trial Reservoir alumni Vortech Water Solutions being shortlisted for the prestigious Global Water Summit Global Water Awards. Being shortlisted is no small achievement and we will be there, cheering you on.
Our next candidate for Breakthrough Technology Company of the Year is Vortech Water Solutions, who took their revolutionary wastewater aeration technology beyond their domestic market into 2025. This Irish provider of Vortex Powered Aeration (VPA) technology secured a reference with Yorkshire Water in the UK and landed their largest project yet, replacing a 250,000 p.e. municipal WWTP in Australia currently using surface aeration, while also securing further deployments with existing blue-chip industrial customers. VorTech is transforming the market by harnessing the power of a vortex to deliver the mixing and fine bubbles critical for efficient aeration, without the maintenance challenges that have burdened operators for decades. With the pump installed above the water line, the technology delivers improved maintenance regimes and safety, up to 75% lower maintenance costs, 30% reduction in energy consumption, and reduced carbon emissions. The VPA technology is easily applicable in new builds or retrofits, simply replacing surface aeration or fine bubble diffusers, or retrofitting oxidation ditches and membrane bioreactors. Deep-seated expertise in fluid dynamics and skilled use of virtual piloting as well as operating through customer-funded projects has enabled VorTech to excel, despite very modest capital abilities. Voting is now open for you to pick your #GlobalWaterAwards winners! Visit our website at the link below to find out more. Results announced May 13th at the Global Water Summit in Paris. ?? #wastewater #waterindustry #GWS2025

?? Sustainable water solutions are transforming food security in arid regions, and Desolenator is leading the charge! We're excited to welcome back Alexei Levene, co-founder of Desolenator, to discuss their groundbreaking, either 100% renewable, OR carbon-positive #desalination system. This innovative solution has been successfully trialled in Abu Dhabi by Silal, a government-owned company focused on enhancing food security in the UAE. ?? In regions where water and energy are critical challenges, Desolenator's technology offers a sustainable alternative to traditional desalination methods. Their flagship SP40 unit, powered by renewable energy and capable of utilizing waste heat sources, provides 40 cubic metres of ultra-pure water per hour. With a zero liquid discharge approach and no harmful chemicals, it sets a new standard for responsible water management. Silal, backed by the UAE's sovereign wealth fund ADQ, is committed to optimizing the region's 38,000 farms and scaling new agricultural capacity. The successful deployment of Desolenator's system is a testament to the potential of innovation in tackling water scarcity and supporting sustainable food production. ?? NEW YEAR, NEW TRIAL Brabant Water N.V., a leading Dutch water utility, are trialling Kenwaves Dynamic Response Imaging (DRI?) technology, which is a non-invasive condition assessment tool for in-service, pressurised water mains. This new Climate Change Trial Reservoir effort will assess DRI?, an innovative technology that can assess pipelines without disrupting the water supply. This means that no shutoffs, pressure changes, or interruptions in the drinking water supply should occur before, during, or after the inspection process. DRI? is capable of determining the remaining wall thickness of a pipeline at a 2-meter resolution. DRI? is well-established in North America and is expected to initiate its European endeavor by the hands of Brabant Water. The aim: to perform a condition assessment of a 1 km test length of Asbestos Cement (AC) water pipeline. Based on the DRI? results, Brabant Water expects to further improve and facilitate the decision-making process on pipeline renewal. Here's to the start of a new trial and the start of new opportunities! To find out more feel free to get in touch with Vanessa van Rossum, who is managing this exciting new project.
