Yes, chickens ARE bigger than they used to be NO, it isn't because chicken farmers are giving them hormones -- that's illegal to do in the U.S. It's because of: 1. genetics - deliberately breeding chickens that are larger 2. feed - nutrition designed by poultry nutrition scientists to provide optimum nutrition for growth 3. housing conditions - chickens being raised in houses or protected environments and fed so they don't have to forage for food and aren't threatened by predators. 4. vaccinations - that protect chickens from diseases

More than 1.7 BILLION people worldwide rely on livestock for their livelihood. These animals drive economies and provide important food and nutrition to the food supply, but livestock production represents approximately 12% of global GHG emissions. Thankfully, it’s possible to make animal agriculture part of the solution. Animals that are sick consume more feed and water, and when an animal is lost to disease, resources must be re-invested in raising another animal to meet market demand. Therefore, disease leads to higher GHG levels per unit of milk, meat and eggs, because more animals and resources are ultimately needed to maintain productivity. Analyses of peer-reviewed studies have found that better livestock health leads to better sustainability.
