According to data from Carta, which provides services to private companies,?#startup?shutdowns are rising sharply, even as billions of dollars of venture capital gushes into artificial intelligence outfits. Founders are now facing the hangover. The jump in bankruptcies is due to the fact that “an abnormally high number of companies raised an abnormally large amount of money during 2021-2022”, said analysts at Morgan Stanley in a recent note to clients. Peter Walker, Head of Insights at Carta, said there had been a “huge drop” in the number of companies able to raise money again within two years of their last funding round. Read more ??

In Nov 2023, at the Singapore FinTech Festival, when Bulent Tekmen took the yellow circle, Colendi already had an awe-inspiring 17Mn users. And Bulent shared his ambition to reach 1Bn users one day. ? But there was another story behind his ambition - one not heard before. Jing Li left his home at 15 to explore the world and returned after 12 long years.? He then became a founding member of WeBank, one of the largest and best digital banks in the world. Jing then departed on a journey to find a way to bring WeBank to more people, which is how Sirius Technologies was born with the help of a bunch of Chinese engineers in Thailand. Fun fact - their biggest market outside of Thailand is Colombia, which is on the opposite side of the globe! Jing is exploring an alternative way of modernising enterprise IT for embedded business models. The very first version of his company MakerBay was built in a former chicken farm in Hong Kong New Territories. It is the first Makerspace focused on social and environmental impact in Asia, and is also the largest non-governmental Makerspace in Hong Kong.
