?? Happy International Day of Forests! Today, March 21, the United Nations headquarters hosted a significant event under the theme "Forests and Foods." This program featured high-level opening remarks, in-depth panel discussions, and statements from member states and stakeholders, all highlighting the crucial link between forests and our food systems. From our student community, Aira Mae Gavan ‘25 MEM, president of IFSA Yale, contributed as a panelist. Gavan and The Forests Dialogue's previous liaison to the International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) Rizka Afif joined policymakers, researchers, civil society representatives, Indigenous leaders, and fellow youth to discuss the vital role of sustainable forest management in ensuring global food security, sustaining livelihoods, and promoting biodiversity. The event successfully raised awareness and promoted action to protect the essential connection between forests and food. Watch the full recording of the event at https://lnkd.in/euM4bb9z #ForestDay

Forestry students head West! Six second-year Master of Forestry students took part in Western Forest Crew to learn about forestry in a new landscape. From spending New Year's at Hama Hama Oysters and learning about their 5,000 acres of timberland with Thomas James ’08 MFS, ‘16 PhD to shadowing silviculturists and engineers with Green Diamond, an industrial timber company, Western Forest Crew broadened their perspectives on forest management. ???? “The opportunity to receive such a comprehensive overview of forestry in the Pacific Northwest was invaluable academically, professionally, and personally,” said Kate Regan-Loomis ’25 MF. “After having spent the previous year and a half embedded in the silviculture of the Northeast, discovering the practices on the Olympic Peninsula broadened my understanding of forestry.” Read more about Western Crew: https://lnkd.in/eithCRBc
