In March 2024, the Network hosted its first LGBTQIA2S+ Student Success Symposium in Sacramento, CA. Building on conversations from the symposium and a shared commitment to continue learning how to better support equitable LGBTQIA2S+ student success in the CSU, the Network launched new Communities of Practice (ComPs) in September 2024. These ComPs provide a space to continue learning with a focus on improving basic needs, advocating for gender centers, and creating gender-affirming campuses for LGBTQIA2S+ students across the CSU. Learn more about how the ComPs came to be with director Larissa Mercado-Lopez, Ph.D. https://lnkd.in/geiKNEiq

In the 2023-24 academic year, the Network renewed its commitment to improving equity and inclusivity across California State University campuses. With a combination of virtual and in-person activities, we facilitated meaningful dialogue and action, focusing on critical issues such as LGBTQIA2S+ student success, the historical impacts of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, and systemic barriers to equity. Thanks to robust participation and feedback from CSU students, staff, faculty, and administrators, the Network not only continued to build on its established foundations of support and collaboration but also responded to pressing challenges within California's higher education systems. We are excited to announce an opportunity to lead the inaugural Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Middle Leadership Academy (AMLA). The AMLA is a joint venture between the?CSU Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program?(CSU ASAP) and the Network. Based off of the Network’s yearlong?Middle Leadership Academy?and tailored to support CSU ASAP grantees, the AMLA brings together campus-based teams of CSU students, student affairs staff, researchers, and faculty in a collaborative and supportive environment to work on common issues related to AANHPI student learning, engagement, progression and completion. The AMLA will be grounded in a problem-based learning model that motivates participants to “lead from the middle” as they explore and apply strategies to develop and implement on their campuses, with a focus on closing opportunity and outcomes gaps for AANHPI students. Those who are currently employed in the CSU as classified staff who are exempt APC union members, MPPs, or faculty are eligible to apply.
