Introducing MapBiomas ?? Each year, an area of tropical forest the size of Texas is lost. By 2030, MapBiomas plans to map and monitor 70% of the world’s tropical forests across 20 countries using this approach. MapBiomas will achieve their ambitious plan by building a network of local organizations — including NGOs, universities, public institutions and tech startups — that can create the most up-to-date, locally relevant maps using satellite imaging tools like NASA’s Landsat and Google Earth Engine. ?? https://lnkd.in/e-u34mjE

Introducing Scaling Safety - Community Based Public Safety Collective Alliance for Safety and Justice ??? Despite billions spent on US public safety, residents in low-income communities of color are 15 times more likely to be victimized by crime and 3 times less likely to get help than residents in wealthier areas. True public safety begins with community empowerment. Scaling Safety has an Audacious idea to put the "public" back in “public safety,” by accelerating the growth and development of resident-powered prevention programs. Over the next five years, Scaling Safety will provide technical support, flexible resources, and advocacy for resident-powered programs in five major US cities: Austin, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Tucson, Arizona. The goal is to scale up these programs to double access to help for the most vulnerable residents, reduce violence by up to 50%, integrate these programs within cities' safety ecosystems, and improve life for the over 2.5 million people who live in these areas overall. ?? https://lnkd.in/es6Up3jf #AudaciousProject

Project Canary is advancing the empirical science of testing for specific risks, to ensure the benefits of AI can be realized. Like a canary in a coal mine, Project Canary will develop methods to alert society to potential AI dangers in time for effective action. Introducing INKOMOKO ?? Today, there are over 122 million forcibly displaced persons worldwide. With the Audacious Project, Inkomoko will unlock the talent and potential of refugee entrepreneurs through financial backing, business training and economic integration into the local community. As part of the Audacious Project, Global Methane Hub is co-ordinating stakeholders worldwide to lower emissions. Introducing EQUIPO ARGENTINO DE ANTROPOLOGIA FORENSE ?? Every day, across the globe, hundreds of people are killed or disappear as a result of government repression, war and internal conflicts, mass migration and climate change – and their families struggle to recover their remains, access truth and justice and reparation. EAAF's Audacious idea is to build lasting forensic systems to identify missing people across two of the world’s most unsafe and unregulated migration routes in Latin America and Nort West-Africa. Equipo Argentino de Antropología Forense (EAAF) has the technology, tools and expertise to not just conduct forensic investigations in a family-centered way and identify missing people’s remains — but to help build lasting forensic systems in many countries that currently lack them. ??
