Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. The official State of Texas program, facilitated by Texas Association of School Administrators since 2011, annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching. All educational aides employed in Texas school districts must be certified according to requirements established by SBEC, but districts have local choice on which assessments they use to meet the requirements.

To assess educator preparation program effectiveness and provide appropriate support, TEA is collecting data via the annual principal and first-year teacher surveys.
