? Feature paper - boryl radical chemistry ?? A new family of Type I photoinitiators based on N-heterocyclic carbene borane is introduced by Sofia TELITEL, Ph.D.,?Nicolas BLANCHARD,?Bernadette Graff,?jacques Lalevee and?Emmanuel Lac?te. ? Compounds are synthesized using a previously unknown homolytic B–N cleavage reaction. ?? Three original NHC-amino borane compounds were designed and synthesized, and their UV absorption properties were assessed. A ?? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eVUPTyGz

? Carbon dioxide based degradable polycarbonate can be obtained through the copolymerization reaction of carbon dioxide with epoxide in the presence of a catalyst. ?? This polymer has attracted much attention in recent years owing to its environmentally friendly and sustainable characteristics, and excellent material properties. ? Numerous catalytic systems have been explored for the CO2/epoxide copolymerization process, in which zinc catalyst has the longest history and the greatest variety. ? Yuyu Liu,?Shanxiu Yang,?Pan Li,?Hao Wang,?Xinjiang Cui,?Bo Qian?and?Feng Shi review the significant advances in zinc catalysts for the copolymerization transformation of CO2?with epoxides, covering both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. ?? ? Aurélien Dupeux,?Andrew G. Durant,?Karolina Rabeda,?Bijan Mirabi,?Austin Marchese,?Russell Algera,?Sebastien Monfette,?Philipp Roosen and?Mark Lautens, O.C. have identified cesium trimethoxy(trifluoromethyl)borate [CsCF3B(OMe)3] as a nucleophilic source for the trifluoromethylation of carbonyl compounds. ? A differentiating characteristic of CsCF3B(OMe)3?is its heightened reactivity in ethereal solvents compared to its potassium analogue, which is typically employed in dimethylformamide. ? Also, in contrast to the extensively studied Ruppert–Prakash reagent (TMSCF3), CsCF3B(OMe)3?does not require the addition of an exogenous activator. ??? The synthesis of CsCF3B(OMe)3?and its efficacy in trifluoromethylation across various scaffolds, including methyl ketones, isatin derivatives, and 1,2-acyclic dicarbonyls, is demonstrated. ?? ?? This work is dedicated to Carsten Bolm, in appreciation for hosting the authors’ group at his chair. ?? Carbocations, often deemed transient and unstable intermediates in organic chemistry, gained significant recognition with the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to George A. Olah in 1995 for his work on carbocation chemistry. ? The triphenylmethyl (trityl) cation, a stable and versatile carbocation, has emerged as a significant player in organic reactions. ? This short review by Yiwei Gong?and?Florian Mulks?provides an update on the use of trityl cations as organic Lewis acids, highlighting their role in various catalytic processes. ??
