Snapbox Self Storage has officially opened a new location in Owings Mills, Maryland. The four-story facility at 10548 Reisterstown Road spans 79,710 square feet and offers 776 storage units. The company recently merged with Go Store It Self-Storage, a subsidiary of Madison Capital Group Holdings, LLC. Who’s #movingstatetostate in the US? As it turns out, it’s #GenZers, catching up to #millennials. These age groups accounted for nearly 30% of all state-to-state relocations in 2023. Gen Zers generally favor states such as the two #Carolinas and #Arizona, where they can get access to dynamic #jobmarkets and laid-back, comfortable lifestyles. Millennials, on the other hand, are highly attracted by states such as #Texas and #Florida, that make it easier for newcomers to prosper financially. By comparison, #GenXers and #babyboomers represent a much smaller share, at 12% and 11%, respectively, as they are typically more settled in their careers or retired. The national average #selfstorage street rate stands at $133, dipping 0.7% year-over-year, based on January 2025 rates. More notably, on a month-to-month basis, rates have started to rebound, registering a modest 0.8% increase, suggesting a more balanced market after the #supplysurge and the pandemic-driven demand boom. Among the country’s largest 150 cities, 91 registered price decreases while 59 experienced #rentincreases. In 2025, the self storage sector is expected to deliver approximately 56 million square feet of new storage space nationally — 3% less than the total deliveries in 2024. Among #midsizecities – with populations between 150K and 350K – where #apartmentliving is small-scale, almost half of the top is occupied by western cities. Seventeen of them are from #California and are places located in high-density spots along the coast in the #InlandEmpire, #SanFrancisco, #SanDiego and #LA metro areas. Today’s #movingtrends seem to be increasingly driven by necessity rather than lifestyle. #Localmoves are often discretionary and fueled by desires to upgrade to a better neighborhood or larger home. Relocations within the same state are now at historic lows, with moving population dropping from 11.9% in 2014 to just 9% in 2023. #Longdistancemoves, however, are frequently supported by necessity, such as #findingajob, affording a home or improving quality of life.
