Spotify pays the majority of every dollar we generate from music back to your selected rights holders (record labels, publishers, PROs, collecting societies) and distributors ?? In 2024, that added up to more than $10 billion, the largest in music industry history. When Spotify first launched in 2008, the music industry was in steep decline, with piracy driving recorded revenues from 2001's $22 billion down to a low of $13 billion in 2014. Now, a decade from that low, streaming has since powered a resurgence in the industry, as global revenue approaches $30 billion. And Spotify alone has now paid out nearly $60 billion all-time to music rights holders. Today, we updated our annual Loud & Clear report, designed to demystify how artists earn money through streaming, and highlight the evolving global music landscape. Kane Brown’s use of Clips in his Countdown Page for “The High Road” is a great example of engaging fans ahead of an album drop. Here’s why it worked: ? Clear call-to-action – Fans knew exactly what to do: pre-save the album. ? Teased new music – Highlighting ‘Backseat Driver’ got fans listening early. ? Made it personal – Kane’s direct message felt authentic and engaging. Adding a Clip to your artist's Countdown Page can help create buzz, build anticipation, and drive early streams. In a study of more than 500 artists with Countdown Pages, artists who uploaded Clips to their Countdown Pages got an average of 2x more pre-saves than artists who didn't.
