Aspiring to set a new standard for sustainable mining with U.S. critical minerals for the clean energy future
关于我们
Located in an historic mining district in the Patagonia Mountains of Southern Arizona, South32’s Hermosa Project is the only advanced mine development project in the United States as of 2024 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—both of which are essential minerals for powering the nation’s clean energy future. Hermosa’s mineral resources also include silver and lead, which are essential for harnessing renewable energy. Our aspiration for the Hermosa Project is to: ? Set a new standard for sustainable mining. ? Strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals. ? Grow the local economy. ? Improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community.

Check out this update from South32 on our next-generation mine hopes to strengthen Arizona's economy and America's national security.
Construction at our Hermosa project’s Taylor zinc-lead-silver deposit is underway and on track, while work continues to unlock value across the broader land package. ?? ??♀?During the September quarter we progressed construction of the Taylor project as planned. The main shaft headframe has been completed and commissioning of the hoisting system for the ventilation shaft is underway. Shaft sinking is on track to commence in the December 2024 quarter. Our investment in Taylor will unlock value for future growth options at Hermosa, including the Clark battery-grade manganese deposit, by establishing significant shared infrastructure. ??Also during Q1, Hermosa was selected for an award negotiation of up to US$166M from the US Department of Energy under the Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing program, supporting the potential development of a commercial-scale battery-grade manganese production facility. Construction of a decline at Clark to enable bulk sampling through a demonstration plant and further underground exploration is underway - with the US Department of Defense supporting this work through a US$20M grant from the Defense Production Act Investment Program ??Project permitting is continuing through the US FAST-41 process – which provides a permitting dashboard to allow federal agencies, project sponsors, other stakeholders, and the public to track project reviews and permitting in real time - delivering improved transparency, accountability and coordination. ??Exploration of other prospects in the Hermosa land package is continuing, including ongoing work to test the potential for a continuous copper system connecting Peake and Taylor Deeps.
