Recently, the Medical Executive Committee for SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, composed of elected medical providers, donated $2,500 each to two Southern Illinois non-profit organizations. Gum Drops and the Carbondale Warming Center received these monetary donations, which were collected from the annual membership dues of the elected committee members and staff physicians providing services at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. “We wanted to give back to organizations already doing important outreach work in the community. Our group came up with a list, voted, and chose these organizations based on their work,” stated Committee President Danielle Tomevi, MD. Pictured in the photo (from left to right) are S.I. BIG DONATION: A HUGE thank you to the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Auxiliary for their donation of more than $50,000 to the SIH Foundation. Those funds will help the SIH Brain & Spine Institute purchase a new Transcranial Doppler. The mobile device performs non-invasive ultrasound tests at the bedside of the patient and in the clinic. It does not involve needles or radiation and is used to quickly and reliably determine if there is a problem with the blood vessels inside the brain and the pressure in the brain. Neurologist Jonatan Hornik, MD, says the device will help keep more patients close to home that otherwise would need to be transferred out of state. #donation #healthcare #thankyou #sih #neurology

41 physicians from 23 medical specialties came together last week to share their expertise and experiences with first-year SIU medical students. SIH Medical Director of Student Experiences Kellie Webb and the SIH Physician Relations team has collaborated with SIU for the event for the past three years. It allows the students to ask questions about residency, work-life balance, training and more.
