When it comes to ground planes, what’s your go-to strategy? Here’s the situation: Gigio is designing a compact 40x30mm, 4-layer #PCB with a stack-up of signal, ground, ground, signal. The design features digital signals on the top layer and analog signals on the bottom, with power routed on the signal layers. A critical #component, the AD7124, is situated on the bottom layer. The big question: ? Should Gigio unify both internal ground planes with the same net (GND)? ? Or would it be better to separate them into DGND (digital ground) and AGND (analog ground) with a net tie to connect them? The goal is to keep the #PCBdesign clean and avoid unnecessary complexity or noise issues. Comment on the thread: https://lnkd.in/gXa2we5J

We looooooooove bloopers and this one is fun! Have you watched Trace Talks EP 5 with Seth Hillbrand about #KiCad yet? https://lnkd.in/gtCMg2eS
We had fun recording the Trace Talks EP 5 with Seth Hillbrand! So yes, I've made the executive decision to release our first podcast #blooper in which my dear boss Amit Bahl demonstrates his acting skills. Spielberg won't cast him, though... https://lnkd.in/gf8AswW3 #tracetalks #techpodcast #podcast #pcb #kicad

To plate or not to plate, that is the question. ?? Mark is asking: "When designing PCBs with mounting holes for screws, there’s often debate about whether the holes should be plated or unplated. Plated holes are generally believed to offer better mechanical support for screws, reducing the risk of PCB damage during assembly or prolonged use. However, it’s worth noting that many commonly used PCBs, such as the Arduino UNO, feature unplated mounting holes. This raises the question of whether plating is always necessary or if it depends on specific use cases or cost considerations." Post your answer on our forum: https://lnkd.in/gWCw4mJE

Can you save costs if you eliminate vias? Here's the question this engineer is asking: "I’m designing a simple two-layer PCB (35mm x 25mm) and can potentially complete the layout without any vias. I’m curious to know if eliminating vias from my PCB design can potentially provide some cost savings. Is it worth the effort to design the board without vias, or are the potential savings worth it?" Adhering to #DFM rules is critical for ensuring the reliability and manufacturability of #RF PCBs. The tips outlined in the infographic provide key guidelines to optimize your RF designs. 1. Ensure the selected material is readily available and compatible with your fab house. Each #PCB fabricator may have a preferred set of materials, so coordinating with your manufacturer early in the design phase can avoid sourcing issues. Additionally, board houses have different equipment and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Understand your manufacturer’s capabilities before finalizing your design to avoid board respins.
