Sidley partner Jessica Adkins recently joined Renewable Energy Alliance - Houston and Rice Business - Jones Graduate School of Business for their Third Annual Renewable Energy Leadership Conference. The conference gathered Houston’s #cleanenergy leaders to discuss the state and future of the U.S. electric grid and Houston’s pivotal role in its transformation. Jessica moderated a panel on “Off-Grid Generation: Band-Aid or Bridge to Grid Stability?,” where panelists discussed the growing turn to off-grid and behind-the-meter solutions as a primary source of power — and how companies are approaching the opportunities involved and meeting the challenges in these growing sectors.

The 2024 California legislative session just ended, and a new suite of laws governing sale and distribution of products in California was enacted. Sellers of paint, carpets, apparel and textiles, juvenile products, food packaging, menstrual products, and any covered product containing PFAS have new California compliance obligations, as do companies with warehouses in California and any company that markets goods or services into California regardless of where domiciled. The California Assembly has approved Gov. Gavin Newson’s proposal to expand the powers of the California Energy Commission to impose new obligations on the oil industry following another special session.
