The end of the holiday weekend also marks the conclusion of the RWJBarnabas Health Business Development Summer Internship Program. Our team was fortunate to have Sophia Paris, Robert Kayal, Claire D'Andrea, and Madison Pullen join us for the summer. The Business Development Summer Internship Program exposes undergraduate students to various professions, including, but not limited to, careers in strategy, finance, law, recruitment, marketing, and operations. Highlights of the 2024 Summer Internship Program included tours of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Jersey City Medical Center, Community Medical Center-Toms River, NJ, and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center for Innovation, in addition to team events, retreats, pitch meetings, transaction document calls, appraisal discussions, weekly Business Development meetings, and more. Meet the RWJBarnabas Health Business Development Ambulatory Services Division! Meg Stagliano, Karin Graulich, and Simone Calabrese are committed to efficiently operating the System's 30 ambulatory surgery centers in collaboration with the facilities' physician leadership teams. The Ambulatory Services Division, a team of majority providers, utilizes clinical and operations experience to develop growth avenues at the System's affiliated ASCs across 11 New Jersey counties. The New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers—an organization of approximately 200 ASCs—named Meg Stagliano President, effective 2022. The donations will support families benefiting from Jersey Cares, the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Women's Wellness Food Farmacy, the Jersey City Medical Center Green Apple Rx Food Farmacy, the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Women's Wellness Food Farmacy, the St. James Health Food Farmacy, and Somerset Family Practice. The RWJBarnabas Health Women’s Leadership Alliance invited Sejal Davé Sharma, MPH, Assistant Vice President of Business Development, to serve as the keynote speaker at the A Seat at the Table presentation last Wednesday, June 12th. Sejal is responsible for developing and maintaining healthy System relationships with the Business Development team’s uniquely aligned outpatient provider network. Over 50 women attended the event, where they had the opportunity to learn from Sejal’s 13 years of complex relationship management experience at RWJBarnabas Health. During the session, Sejal taught rising women health care leaders essential workplace empowerment strategies, including emotional intelligence, public speaking, and relationship management tools. The Business Development team is fortunate to have strong women leaders like Sejal. Our affiliated outpatient providers never hesitate to utilize her as a resource when building organic and trusting relationships with the System. On June 1, the Business Development team hosted the Artificial Intelligence in Medical Care seminar in collaboration with the NYU Stern School of Business. 60 affiliated physician leaders and practice managers attended the lecture and had the opportunity to learn from Professor Natalia Levina, Ph.D. Program Coordinator for Information Systems at the NYU Stern School of Business, Dr. Partho Sengupta, Henry Rutgers Professor and Chief of Cardiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Chief of the Cardiology Service Line at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and Ms. Amy Rockman, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence at RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Health. The lecture addressed the history of AI in health care, AI’s capacity for decision-making in physician practices, best approaches to the AI tool selection and development process, the human-in-the-loop model, current RWJBarnabas Health AI initiatives, and how physician practice leaders can drive AI success and risk mitigation strategies. The Business Development Operations Division periodically offers courses to further equip our aligned physician leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the evolving health care landscape.
