Suffolk University's Center for Innovation and Change Leadership was honored to host the annual "Meet-the-Editor" research workshop on October 11, featuring Prof. Billur Akdeniz Talay from the University of New Hampshire and Prof. Michael Obal from UMass Lowell. Both provided invaluable insights into academic publishing, in the Journal of Business Research and Research-Technology Management (RTM). Participants had the unique opportunity to present their research and engage directly with the editors. A special thank you to the dedicated faculty members from Suffolk University’s Marketing, Economics, Strategy & International Business, and ISOM Departments, including Li Chen, Zhen Jane Zhu, Cristian Chelariu (Prof. CC), Mujde Yuksel, Le (Sarah) Tang, Maria Lapeira, PhD, Mark Lehrer, Russell Seidle, Sokol Celo, I. Kim Wang, Nesij Huvaj, PhD, and Yuanxiang John LI, whose contributions were essential to the event’s success. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Garima Garg of UMass Amherst for sharing her valuable research.

Happy to share our new publication w/ Mika Ruokonen in Research-Technology Management! ? Getting the ‘Why, What, and How’ Right About Your Metaverse Strategy ? The paper is published in the "Managers@Work" -category in the journal, which means it is written in a practitioner-oriented way, and includes a lot of practical insight and examples. I believe anything related to metaverse requires a very pragmatic approach. We saw the metaverse hype cycle come and go around the years 2021-22, and we are left with practical opportunities and barriers. We need to move beyond the hype and get concrete. While the metaverse hype has eased (and AI-hype has entered), companies are still gradually virtualizing and digitalizing their assets, operations, and products. The direction of the development is clear, even if the pace and visibility vary as trends and discussions change. So how to start a metaverse strategy - or a set of strategic initiatives in increasing the virtual engagement of the company with its staff and customers, for instance? In our paper we propose three alternative strategic processes (in the figure): ?? Mission-driven: This is what Facebook did by changing its name to Meta Platforms, and really doubling down with massive investments. Was it successful... is a different story that is yet to be determined :) ?? Experimentation-driven: Pilots, trials, task-forces. Typical way to reduce risk, but examine opportunities. Many companies have trialed e.g. being featured in virtual worlds such as Roblox, or by organizing VR exhibitions of their products to their key customers. ?? Synergy-seeking: This approach would be organic development where the digital development is gradually extended to also virtual spaces, and over time engagement with different devices and interfaces (for staff, partners, customers etc). We can see such development happening gradually e.g. with virtual engineering, remote meetings, and personnel onboarding. Diesmal geht es um die Frage, nach welchen Kriterien man die Partner für eine Ecosystem Initiative ausw?hlt. Das Ergebnis war überraschend: Ressourcen, F?higkeiten oder kultureller Fit ist natürlich wichtig. Aber das wichtigste Kriterium ist die Motivation der Partner. Der Artikel kommt in einer Praxis Variante, die auch für Praktiker schnell und gut lesbar ist. Und natürlich fliessen solche Erkenntnisse aus der Forschung direkt in unsere Beratungspraxis bei der Detecon Schweiz über unser Ecosystem Team ein (u. A. Excited to announce the publication of my latest article in the Research-Technology Management (RTM) journal: "Rhetorical or Genuine Slack Time? Temporal Attributes, Barriers, and Outcomes of Slack Time." The article is forthcoming in RTM's Sept/Oct issue, but is already pre-published online: https://lnkd.in/eXTrwaC2 This piece represents the second in a three-part, single-authored series exploring slack time in companies and its impact on innovation. Building on the literature review from the first article, this empirical study delves into the temporal attributes, barriers, and outcomes of slack time, grounded in real practitioner experiences. A heartfelt thank you to Innovation Research Interchange for supporting this research, and to Research-Technology Management (RTM) for helping disseminate the findings. I love publishing in Research-Technology Management (RTM) because it's a high-quality, peer-reviewed journal read by practitioners in innovation, R&D, and technology management. It's the perfect platform for bridging academic research with real-world application. Special appreciation goes to Tammy McCausland, Lee Novak Green, and Yat Ming Ooi for their invaluable assistance. I'm honored to have contributed insights on slack time to Jim Euchner's recent Forbes article 'A Magical Slack Time Machine.'
