Big milestone from RIT’s Center for Detectors! The team achieved first light with a single-photon imaging detector for a $2.5M NASA project aimed at creating radiation-hardened sensors for future space telescopes like the Habitable Worlds Observatory. “We are developing technology to detect alien life in the universe,” said center Director Don Figer. https://brnw.ch/21wRE2j

As part of the RIT College of Science Distinguished Speaker Series, the School of Physics and Astronomy is hosting an inspiring lecture by, world-renowned physicist and National Medal of Science awardee, Dr. Sylvester James Gates Jr., as he shares how adinkras/adynkras mathematical images might unlock new insights into quantum gravity. ?? Wednesday, April 2 ?? 1:00–1:50 PM ?? 1250 Gosnell Hall, RIT ?? Reception to follow in the A-Level Atrium ?? In-person only See this link for more information: https://lnkd.in/grBt7uNz The College of Science Distinguished Speaker Series Invites prominent scholars making advancements in science and mathematics to share their work on campus. The Rochester Institute of Technology community is highly encouraged to attend these lectures to meet and learn from experts from other institutions and industries. Please invite your students to attend with you! Students may be nervous to attend on their own, so a personal invite can go a long way. #Physics #QuantumGravity #Visualization #STEM #RITScience #DistinguishedLecture #ScienceEvents

I'm excited the share our latest perspective and review on ionically gated transistors (IGTs) based on two-dimensional materials for neuromorphic computing, published in Institute of Physics' 2D Materials journal. We are honored that this work has been selected for the journal’s 10th Anniversary Collection (https://lnkd.in/gXkths_w). This was another exciting collaboration with Prof. Susan K. Fullerton at University of Pittsburgh, where we highlight the significant progress in IGTs demonstrating dynamic synaptic properties that mirror biological learning and memory processes. However, unlocking their full potential in neuromorphic systems requires bridging the gap between their demonstrated synaptic functionalities and practical integration into neural networks. Advancing this connection could open new pathways for energy-efficient and biologically inspired computing.
