Special Presentation: My Journey to Islam and Experiences with Ramadan Rodney Burford is an American actor known for his compelling portrayal of Tony Hughes in Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which premiered in September 2022. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Burford attended the Maryland School for the Deaf and later studied at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He made his screen debut in 2020 on the reality television show Deaf U. Rodney was born Deaf, and in 2022, he converted to Islam and has since embraced the faith. He plans to share his journey and his experiences with Ramadan. Join us for “From Vision to Reality: Building a Nonprofit for the Deaf Community,” a presentation by RIT/NTID alum Chad Ludwig ’97, Monday, March 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Dyer Arts Center, in LBJ Hall, on the RIT campus. The NTID community – faculty, staff, students, and alums are invited to join Ludwig, MSW, ADAC, CDI, founder and executive of Bridges Oregon, who will present about his experience establishing his non-profit organization for the deaf community. Ludwig will cover topics on legislative and grant work, building an organization from the ground up, lessons learned, and more! Ludwig is a graduate of RIT’s social work program and has served as director of the regional resource center on deafness at Western Oregon University. He holds a master’s degree from East Carolina University and is a certified ADA coordinator and a certified Deaf and DeafBlind interpreter. This event is free, but registration is required here. RIT School of Performing Arts and NTID Performing Arts students earned awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Competing in one of eight regional events, they traveled to Pittsburgh for a chance to advance to nationals in April. This marks RIT’s eighth year competing in categories from acting to dramaturgy.
