We're excited to share the final report from our research collaboration with Carolina Small Business Development Fund (CSBDF), "Extraordinary Times Call for Extraordinary Measures: Small Business Assistance During the Pandemic." This report compares grant and loan programs deployed across the state by CSBDF to get a clear understanding of the early impact of that aid, particularly for Black-owned businesses and those owned by women or other People of Color. Thank you very much to Jamie McCall and his team for their great work and partnership. We are appreciative of the opportunity to build on ResilNC's previous reports on the impact of the pandemic on Black businesses and to continue centering the needs and experiences of Black entrepreneurs as we move on from the height of COVID and the 2020 racial reckoning. https://lnkd.in/gU2NyN7m Carolina Small Business Development Fund #blackbusiness #blackentrepreneurship #communityinvestment #economicdevelopment #smallbusiness

Proud of our Grantor MacArthur Foundation
The MacArthur Foundation plans to increase its giving over the next two years in response to the "crisis" brought on by the Trump administration's freeze on federal foreign aid and the now-suspended freeze on federal grants, and it's urging other grant makers to do the same. https://lnkd.in/eAAU7DgP

Movements are made of people and their connections. They are things of natural beauty. Just like any natural system, it may seem chaotic and uncoordinated, but out of human connection and community emerges the power to shift systems and change the world. This year, I got to experience one such movement - dreaming of a reality where every American household gets a fair shot at participating in the prosperity of this country. We at Gary Community Ventures had the privilege of partnering with the The Aspen Institute Financial Security Program and The Bridgespan Group to assemble 100 of these movement builders. And what emerged is collective magic where individual actions and meaningful relationships unleashed incredible beauty and hope. And we are just getting started.

In September, we partnered with Gary Community Ventures and the The Bridgespan Group to host ASSEMBLE100, a first-of-its-kind summit featuring 100 leading investors, practitioners, policy leaders, and entrepreneurs. Our charge? To advance the field of “ownership investing”—an emerging set of investment strategies and solutions that make asset ownership accessible to low-wealth individuals and communities AND create strong, long-term economic value for investors. Our New Wealth Agenda research has shown that wealth is a necessary prerequisite for financial security. By building wealth, households can do more than meet their basic needs. They can weather financial shocks, pursue further education, purchase a home, or start a small business. With this transformative potential in mind, the gathering identified 3 next steps to grow ownership investing: ?? Create a universal narrative that compellingly articulates the power of ownership investing . ?? Identify which metrics most effectively illustrate the economic and social impacts of ownership investments. ??? Leverage public policy solutions, such as the Community Reinvestment Act to attract more capital to this market. Dig into these recommendations and in the newly released report from the Summit, and join us in helping to finance a future of wealth that is diverse, democratic, inclusive, innovative, and empowering. ?? https://lnkd.in/esyAh-xU Ida Rademacher, Joanna Smith-Ramani, Santhosh Ramdoss, Emily Williams, Devin Murphy, Atharva S., Tracy Hadden Loh, David Bank

Trust President & CEO Andrea Sáenz stopped by the ABC 7 Chicago studios to discuss why we at The Chicago Community Trust are working to address the #wealthgap in the #Chicago region. She noted, "In Chicago, fully two thirds of our population are either Black or Latine. And so, when you think about our city's future and our region's future, and two thirds of our city's population are held back from being able to fully engage in the city's economic life, it really does harm us all." Our state is unique in how federal and state government agencies and the private sector work hand in hand to boost international trade for both large and small businesses. We did something a bit different awarding Angela Sellars (Dir NC MBDA Business Center) and Greg Sizemore (Dir., US Dept of Commerce - United States Export Assistance Center) with a Collaboration Award highlighting the value of agencies working together to boost trade by driving public / priv partnership.
