At REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project we don't just focus on piloting the technological solutions on-board vessels to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. ?? We are also looking into how operational measures contribute to that. The first of several studies to be conducted focuses on investigating the feasibility of shortening the route to the Island of Kihnu. Yesterday, Kadi Kasep?ld and Jaak Kaabel shed some light on the upcoming study funded and conducted through the REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project project in Eesti Rahvusringh??ling news Aktuaalne Kaamera - the longest-running television news programme in Estonia. By September we will have a clearer vision on: ?? whether the alternative route from mainland to Kihnu island through Kakra channel would be feasible; ?? on which conditions could it be operated; ?? and how would the CO2 emissions from M/V Kihnu Virve change with the fuel savings when operating on a shorter route. The Baltic Sea, with its sightworthy coastline, numerous islands and archipelagos, is in many ways a wonderful place also for recreational boating ?? Similarly to international shipping and island ferries, the small craft industry is following the sustainability principles ?? . Whether they be electric engines to reduce the use of fossil fuel or designing a more streamlined hull, many parallels could be drawn in terms of decarbonization measures implemented on larger vessels. ? This weekend, together with TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy and #SustainableFlow project, the REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project was featured at #Meremess2025 - the biggest boat show in the Baltic States. Until next events and sharing experiences! ?? ?? Central Baltic Programme #pleasurecraft #recreationalboating #greenshipping #balticsea #decarbonization #islandferries

?? This time the REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project Monthly meeting featured zero emission solutions for the maritime industry from 3mar - a Finnish start-up developing and producing compact and efficient shore connection and automooring devices specifically for smaller vessels such as the island ferries ?? Our main takeaways from today's Monthly: ?? Charging doesn't have to be swinging cables and extra work for connecting and disconnecting. Automatic connection with no extra tide compensation is a reality. ?? Automooring can save up to 30% of energy! REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project thanks pauli immonen and Markku Hokkanen for the presentation. We will continue to learn in the upcoming sessions! In the last Monthly meeting of REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project?for the project partners, we hosted an external speaker - Prof Aykut Olcer from World Maritime University.? The presentation provided comprehensive overview to the topic of decarbonization of Korean domestic shipping. Similarly to the Baltic Sea region, domestic shipping is vital to South Korea's economy, while also significantly contributing to GHG emissions and air pollution.? As the goal to reach zero-emissions is momentous for both regions, many valuable insights were gained from the presentation ?? . Here are the most outstanding: ?? It is important to take into account the whole life-cycle of the vessel, as well as the emissions; ?? Immediate energy efficiency measures are crucial to take, as well as accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels and battery-electric systems, at the same time prioritizing green energy production;? ?? Collaboration among stakeholders and governmental incentives is essential for advancing zero-emission shipping initiatives. This was one of the first monthly meetings of many to come, where we plan to delve into the energy efficiency measures, emerging technologies and good practices from other regions. REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project acknowledges the World Maritime University and #KoreaMaritimeInstitute for the the work done in the field and thanks Prof Aykut Olcer for the presentation. Ferries play a major role in Europe in connecting islands to the mainland and are essential in outer regions. Today, the REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project project is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet the Projects". Structural funds are key funding tools to enhance Technology Leadership in the WaterborneTP sector as well. REISFER is called to life to form a common understanding on the operating environment and organisation of the Central Baltic ferry transportation along with the status of CO2 emissions in the region. The project also aims to share knowledge in the partnership and more widely with the stakeholders on the effectiveness of different energy efficiency technologies and methods to reduce CO2 emissions in inter-island ferry transportation. REISFER aims to improve the intermodal transport nodes in island ferry traffic by reducing CO2 emissions by 10 – 20 % on selected routes in Estonia, Finland, ?land Islands and Sweden. As sharing knowledge and best practices is in the heart of the REISFER project, the consortium puts emphasis on knowledge exchange and raising awareness among the ferry companies and crews, along with other stakeholders in the sector. Lucka 22 ?gnas ?t ?? REISFER ??
