On 10th March, we welcomed people affected by Parkinson’s, charities, researchers and community organisations to our East London Parkinson’s Disease Project (ELPD) PPIE event. We shared updates from ELPD, and opportunities to take part in projects on Parkinson’s progression markers, oral health in Parkinson’s, and platform clinical trials. We also had lively discussions around people’s experience of taking part in research, their priorities for research, and how to overcome potential barriers to research engagement. Great to see the trial of a new scanning technology for prostate cancer being mentioned in The Times and Sunday Times today. The trial, led by our Professor Rhian Gabe from Wolfson Institute of Population Health (QMUL) and colleagues from Imperial College London and supported by Prostate Cancer UK will recruit up to 1000 men with high-risk prostate cancer. Our latest study, 'A hole in the bucket? Exploring England's retention rates of recently qualified doctors,' analyses the career trajectories of GP registrars who completed their third year of specialty training between 2018 and 2023. The findings reveal significant challenges in retaining newly qualified GPs within the NHS, highlighting the need for targeted strategies to improve retention and address workforce shortages.
