The Chinese solar sector is facing an imminent wave of widespread company insolvencies after three years of heavy overinvestment, according to the latest ‘PV ModuleTech Bankability Ratings Quarterly (https://lnkd.in/eMk4hpGJ report by Finlay Colville. This anticipated downturn, similar to one a decade ago but with more severe implications within China, will affect not only module manufacturers but also wafer and cell producers. Currently, one-third of Chinese PV module suppliers are burdened with significant liquidity and debt issues, operating at a loss of over 50% on sales. Despite these challenges, the top six Chinese PV module suppliers (JinkoSolar, JA Solar Technology, Trina Solar, LONGi Green Energy Technology, Tongwei, and Canadian Solar) are better positioned financially, having implemented cost-cutting strategies and halved their capital expenditure commitments. These leaders, controlling 60% of the market, aim to weather the downturn by maintaining cash reserves and reducing dependency on module sales. Most other suppliers, however, face severe liquidity issues and are at risk of insolvency by 2025. Read more on Finlay's blog here - https://lnkd.in/eNWQMkp8
