Update: The Past Few Weeks in Our Soccer Pressure Research Journey The last couple of weeks have been an exciting blur for our team as we've had the privilege of presenting our research on quantifying pressure in soccer at some incredible events: 1. ICDS Symposium at University Park?? 2. Start Talking Science in Philadelphia?? 3. Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Conference in Pittsburgh From the beginning, this project wasn't about chasing acclaim; it was driven by a clear mission: to address a critical gap in soccer analytics—specifically around understanding pressing and how to defend in an era where low blocks and dense formations dominate. This has been a massive undertaking, pushing us to think deeply, collaborate, and refine our ideas under pressure (pun intended!). What's been most enriching is the feedback and discussions we've had with experts, coaches, and fellow analysts. It's clear that we're onto something that could make a real difference in how teams approach pressing and defensive strategy. We're now more committed than ever to getting this research into the hands of coaches and analysts to implement on the field. Our hope is that it will help teams better understand the dynamics of modern soccer and elevate their game. We couldn’t be prouder of where we’ve come, and this is just the beginning. Last week, Career Management Services hosted a bus trip for 46 Penn State Great Valley students to attend University Park Fall Career Days - Technical Day. This career fair provides?opportunities for students?to meet with employer representatives to discuss internship and full-time opportunities.

Our students are working with faculty on a groundbreaking research project to analyze opioid epidemic data and help prevent deaths. “The opioid epidemic is one of the most significant public health challenges of our time, and I am excited to apply data-driven approaches, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, to recommend appropriate interventions,” said Ahmed Soliman, one of the graduate student researchers.
