?? 20 plant-based products rival meat on taste – but can the industry go further? The latest Taste of the Industry 2025 report from NECTAR offers a comprehensive look at how plant-based meats stack up against their animal-based counterparts – and the results show both progress and key areas for improvement. ?? The good news? - 20 plant-based products were rated the same or better than the animal benchmark by at least 50% of participants. - The best-performing products – like those from Impossible Foods, meati?, and Heura Foods – prove that plant-based meat can meet mainstream taste expectations. - Consumers are willing to pay a premium for better-tasting plant-based meats, making further R&D a worthwhile investment. ?? The big opportunity? Texture remains the biggest gap between plant-based and animal-based meats. While the leading products are closing in, the industry must prioritise texture improvements to boost adoption. Caroline Cotto, Director of NECTAR, explains why this research is so important: "Our comprehensive research confirms that taste remains a decisive factor in driving mainstream adoption of plant-based meats. The TASTY Awards, powered by NECTAR, spotlight innovative brands that are successfully meeting mainstream taste expectations. By publicising rigorous sensory data and recognising exceptional products, we're equipping the alternative protein industry with essential insights to accelerate market growth and deliver meaningful climate benefits." To celebrate taste innovation, NECTAR is launching the TASTY Awards, recognising brands that have successfully met mainstream taste expectations. Why this matters Taste is the #1 driver of food choices. To unlock the full potential of plant-based meat – both for consumers and the planet – the industry must double down on taste and texture improvements. ?? Dive into the full dataset to see how plant-based meats compare: https://lnkd.in/gRq2w-9y What do you think? What are your top picks for plant-based meats that truly deliver on taste?
