I’ve redrawn the plyometric progression infographic that I helped Charlie Francis prepare back in 2002. It is a training concept that I still apply today with my athletes, because it is so simple and effective, and keeps the athletes relatively healthy. Start with jumps up onto boxes or stairs to limit landing stress. Once the athlete has become stronger, jumps over distance or hurdles can be performed. You can follow with depth jumps and more intense landings. This progression takes into account the intense stresses encountered with plyometric jumps. If you start with too much intensity, particularly on the eccentric landings, injuries can quickly enter the picture. You can also see that the jump totals correspond with unloading phases in the strength program to avoid interference from high volume lifting, freeing up the muscles for higher velocity, reactive jumps. More information on Charlie Francis’ approach to training for speed can be found at CharlieFrancis.com. #jumps #plyometrics #explosive #planning #periodization #progression #injuryprevention #speed #sprint

Thankful to have gotten certified in Blood Flow Restriction Therapy today! As an Orthopedic clinician, I am excited to better apply this tool in my practice. Thank you Nicholas Rolnick for the knowledge and Professional Physical Therapy for providing me with the continued education in an area of interest.

Simple, but not easy. It’s a phrase I’ve come back to time and time again over my 34-year career. Concepts in rehabilitation often look straightforward on paper. You think you’ve got it all figured out with a system in place. For me, that system has been the Hierarchy of Rehabilitation. The hierarchy breaks down the process of patient care into clear, logical steps. It’s simple in theory—progress from evaluation to pain management, then mobility, strength, and so on. It looks so obvious that you might think applying it would be easy. But that’s where the challenge begins. Every patient brings unique complexities, and following this “simple” system can become anything but easy. It takes time, patience, and experience to work through each layer of the pyramid, making adjustments and navigating setbacks along the way. The biggest lesson? Don’t confuse simplicity with ease. Just because something appears straightforward doesn’t mean it won’t demand effort, persistence, and critical thinking. #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #simple
