Every year at Huntsman Corporation, our Chairman and CEO, Peter Huntsman sponsors a company-wide competition to find the most innovative breakthroughs in the categories of new product development and manufacturing excellence. ? Our teams get to present their proposals in-person to the Huntsman executive officers at our global headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas; then the winners are announced at an official awards ceremony the following evening.? ? As president of Huntsman’s Polyurethanes division, I’m very proud that our automotive team won this year's award for product innovation, with a new technology for encapsulating electric vehicle (EVs) batteries, providing thermal, vibration and structural protection. ? This represents a unique and totally new application for Polyurethanes – battery potting – and required an intense and rapid development process. With our battery potting technology, we enable light-weighting and thereby increase the driving range of the EV. Truly a win-win!? ? In the manufacturing excellence category, a hotly contested field, our Rotterdam MDI plant team were runners up with their innovative technique for cleaning glass-lined Isomerizer columns in our DADPM units. As with all great innovations, their new approach is both simple on the one hand, but also highly effective on the other, being much safer, quicker and lower cost than the maintenance process used today. ?
