We concluded a memorable symposium with another memorable day on Thursday. Among the many highlights: a moving poetry reading; a spirited reading of 'The Lorax' by Austin Community College's Amber Clontz, followed by a thought-provoking discussion; and an inspiring presentation about the Drama for Schools initiative, featuring 7th-graders and their teachers from the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Thanks again to everyone who made the symposium a success! See you next year!

Thank you to all of our dynamic speakers and panelists and to everyone who attended the first day of our annual symposium! ? One of many highlights: Vanderbilt University professor Jonathan Gilligan's keynote address. "Whatever your role is," he said, "wherever your passion takes you in making the world more sustainable and just, you belong — and don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Amen! ???? And if you missed today, don't worry — there are still two more days of inspiring and thought-provoking presentations, panel discussions, networking opportunities and more. ?? From the Panhandle plains to the Rio Grande Valley, Texas’ vast and varied landscapes are as rich in biodiversity as they are in beauty. Yet these ecosystems face mounting threats. Rapid urbanization is fragmenting habitats, while extreme weather events place unprecedented stress on species. Planet Texas 2050’s Resilience in Species and Ecosystems (RISE) project is confronting these challenges head-on, combining cutting-edge technology, ecological research and community collaboration to foster resilience for both wildlife and people. It was a busy weekend as we had a wonderful opportunity to discuss the climate infrastructure and capital improvements, and mobility options for the city. We had a team from #TransitForward and many of the mass transit, climate resilience, environmental organizations joining and take a train ride from downtown Austin and discuss the different topics. We had a closing discussion at a Coop regarding the community, city, and academia input for different climate initiatives including a very informative climate bond conversation by Zach Baumer. #UTcityClimateCoLab Planet Texas 2050

Join us Wednesday for our next Resilience Roundtable. Bethany Wiggin, director of the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities at University of Pennsylvania, shares her experiences with the Intersecting Energy Cultures Working Group, drawing on the project's preliminary findings to consider questions fundamental to fostering and maintaining research partnerships beyond university settings. We will discuss how arts-driven and humanistic methods of inquiry enable us to carry out meaningful community-based, participatory research around historic, contemporary and future relations with sites of energy production.
