The Evolving Landscape of Tertiary Education in New Zealand & Australia I attended a recent address by the Minister for Tertiary Education & Skills, Hon. Penny Simmonds, who provided valuable insights into the future of tertiary education in New Zealand. Her speech resonated with ongoing discussions and concerns voiced by students, industry stakeholders & WIL interest groups across Australia and New Zealand. The Minister highlighted key points aligned with findings from the University Advisory Group, including: - Effectiveness of Qualification Structure and Technology: Are current qualifications designed effectively, and do they utilize appropriate technologies? - Collaboration Between Education and Industry: How can we foster stronger collaboration between educators and industry leaders? - Supporting Disadvantaged Students: What strategies can be implemented to ensure equitable access and support for disadvantaged students? In an increasingly dynamic world, traditional methods like lectures and years old research materials are often insufficient. There is a growing demand for practical, industry-relevant education. Additionally, proposals for student income support during full-time placements are gaining traction, as seen in similar initiatives undertaken in Australia (link: https://lnkd.in/g_5Atncz). The tertiary education sector is undergoing a transformation to better prepare graduates for the modern workplace. A key focus is ensuring all students gain practical workplace experience before graduation through increased placement and work experience opportunities. Some progressive tertiary institutions are already implementing such programmes. Managing these changes necessitates efficient tools to minimise the administrative burden on institutions. Fortunately, our solution, PlaceTrack (https://lnkd.in/gteK8fAC), provides the functionalities to streamline this process.

There are many Universities who have a reasonable percentage of International Students as part of their student body. When sending these students out on placement, it is challenging to adequately support them when they come from quite different backgrounds and experiences. The study below highlights some of the challenges these students face in making sense of their placements in a foreign country, their concerns and some of the strategies they utilise in order to cope better. Having a good placement management tool to capture information particularly for Supervisors to better support students and add greater cultural understanding for all stakeholders would be very useful. https://lnkd.in/gdwpxnh3

The thing we are hearing a lot of when we are talking to tertiary education organisations is that they have difficulty integrating data from other software tools and systems, into their placement tool, or they find it hard, if not impossible, to get data from their placement tool, into other software tools and systems they use. The thing we love about industry conferences, is the ability to hear presentations from, and talk to, many industry movers, shakers and super stars on what is important for them currently, what problems they need to solve, and where the industry is headed. Based on what we heard and saw at #WILNZ we have built a whole new feature, tested it and launched it within a week.
