COLLAB TOPIC : FLAT FOOT PREPARED BY : P.Srikanth (Occupational therapist) FLAT FOOT : Flat foot, also known as pes planus, is a condition in which the arch of the foot is flattened, causing the entire sole of the foot to touch the ground when standing. This can occur in one or both feet and can be present from birth or develop later in life. Flat foot can cause pain, discomfort, and difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time. It can also increase the risk of developing other foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. CAUSES: - Genetics: Flat foot can be inherited from parents. - Weak arches: Weakness in the muscles and tendons that support the arch of the foot can cause flat foot. - Injury: An injury to the foot or ankle can damage the bones and tissues and lead to flat foot. - Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and obesity can cause flat foot. SYMPTOMS: - Pain in the feet, especially in the arch and heel area. - Swelling in the feet. - Tiredness or fatigue in the feet and legs. - Difficulty standing on tiptoe or pushing off while walking. - Uneven shoe wear. DIAGNOSIS: A podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon can diagnose flat foot by examining the feet and observing how the patient stands and walks. X-rays or other imaging tests may be ordered to determine the extent of the condition. TREATMENT : - Supportive shoes with good arch support and cushioning can help relieve pain and discomfort. - Orthotic inserts or custom-made arch supports can help support the arch of the foot and reduce pain. - Physical therapy exercises can help strengthen the muscles and tendons that support the arch of the foot. - In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to correct the flat foot. #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork

COLLAB TOPIC:TORTICOLLIS PREPARED BY: SRESHTA CHRISTINA OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Torticollis is a stiff neck that makes it hard or painful to turn your head. In older kids and adults, it can happen after sleeping in a funny position. Babies can be born with a stiff neck, but the condition is a little different and not painful. What Is Torticollis in Infants? A baby can be born with a type of torticollis (tor-tuh-KOL-is) called congenital muscular torticollis. Most don't feel any pain from it. And the problem usually gets better with simple position changes or stretching exercises done at home What Are the SIGNS & SYMPTOMS of Infant Torticollis? Babies with torticollis will act like most other babies except during activities that involve turning their head. When they’re about 2–4 weeks old, a baby with torticollis might: tilt the head in one direction (this can be hard to notice in very young infants) not fully turn their head to follow you if breastfed, have trouble breastfeeding on one side (or prefer one breast only) work hard to turn toward you Some babies with torticollis develop a flat spot on the head (positional plagiocephaly) from lying in one direction most of the time. In some, the neck, jaw, and face also might be uneven. Some babies develop a small neck lump or bump, like a "knot" in a tense muscle. These things tend to go away as the torticollis get better. HOW IS TORTICOLLIS TREATED: Most often, stretching exercises and position changes can treat congenital torticollis. Your baby’s healthcare provider will teach you how to stretch your baby’s neck muscles. You’ll need to gently move your baby’s head to the opposite side. You’ll want to practice torticollis stretches several times a day. Over time, slowly increase the movements. For position changes, lay your baby on their back with their head positioned to the opposite side during naps and at bedtime. When your baby’s awake, move toys and other objects so they have to practice turning their neck in the opposite direction If these methods don’t work, your baby’s healthcare provider may refer you to a specialist. They may first recommend physical therapy. Other specialists may include: Pediatric neurologist: A pediatric neurologist is a doctor who specializes in brain, spinal cord and nerve disorders in children. Orthopedic surgeon: An orthopedic surgeon is a doctor who specializes in the musculoskeletal system. Your baby may need surgery to lengthen their SCM muscle. Treatment for acquired torticollis focuses on the condition causing it and relieving symptoms. Treatment may include: Antibiotics. Botulinum toxin injections to loosen stiff neck muscles. Heat therapy. Massage. Neck braces or collars. Physical therapy #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork

Collab topic : Developing cognitive skills Prepared by : Sriram Madhukar (Behaviour therapist) Developing cognitive skills refer to the ability of a child to learn, think, reason, and problem-solve. These skills are essential for a child's overall development and success in life. There are several types of cognitive skills, including: 1. Attention: The ability to focus on a task or stimulus for a sustained period. 2. Memory: The ability to store and retrieve information. 3. Perception: The ability to interpret sensory information. 4. Language: The ability to understand and use language. 5. Executive function: The ability to plan, organize, and control behavior. Treatment for cognitive skill development depends on the specific area of concern. For example, if a child is struggling with attention, interventions may include behavioral therapy, medication, or environmental modifications. If a child is struggling with language development, speech therapy may be recommended. The causes of cognitive skill development issues can vary. Some children may have genetic predispositions to certain conditions, such as autism or ADHD. Others may experience environmental factors that impact their development, such as malnutrition or exposure to toxins. Diagnosis of cognitive skill development issues typically involves a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified professional, such as a pediatrician, psychologist, or neuropsychologist. This evaluation may include assessments of cognitive abilities, behavioral observations, and medical testing. Once a diagnosis is made, appropriate interventions can be recommended to support the child's development. #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork
