*BARREL CHEST DEFORMITY* Barrel Chest Deformity, also known as Pectus Carinatum, is a congenital or acquired chest wall abnormality characterized by a protruding sternum and rib cage, resembling a barrel shape. Causes: - Genetic predisposition - Congenital conditions (e.g., Marfan syndrome) - Acquired conditions (e.g., rickets, scoliosis) - Poor posture Symptoms: - Visible deformity - Respiratory difficulties (dyspnea) - Exercise intolerance - Chest pain - Low self-esteem Classification: - Chondromanubrial prominence (most common) - Chondrogloidal prominence - Mixed type Treatment: - Conservative management: - Bracing (especially in children) - Exercise and physical therapy - Respiratory therapy - Surgical options: - Ravitch procedure (removing cartilage) - Nuss procedure (inserting a metal bar) - Thoracoscopic surgery Complications if left untreated: - Respiratory problems - Cardiovascular issues - Decreased exercise capacity - Psychological impacts #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork

Pre-writing Skills : After identifying a writing surface that captures your son's interest, I recommend engaging in enjoyable pre-writing activities prior to introducing letters. Utilizing vibrant crayons, markers, or chalk, demonstrate to your son how to create shapes such as circles, large "X" marks, and zigzags. Encourage him to replicate or trace your movements, or alternatively, mimic his actions. If he makes a mark on the sidewalk, commend him and create a similar mark alongside his. Have him draw a circle, and then enhance it by adding eyes, a nose, and a mouth to form a cheerful face that you both have collaboratively created. Instruct your son on how to trace his hand on the sidewalk & on the writing surface affixed to the wall. After tracing your own hand, you may need to provide gentle hand-over-hand assistance to guide him in tracing his own. Many children in my experience find the sensory elements of this activity to be highly enjoyable, which fosters visual focus and interest in utilizing writing tools. Demonstrate how to trace shapes in the sand using his finger or to imprint shapes in soft clay with a stick. These activities can offer delightful sensory feedback. Articulation disorder is a common issue where a child struggles to produce certain sounds. For instance, they might say "wabbit" instead of "rabbit" or use "sip" instead of "sip." This disorder is not caused by problems with their brain, mouth, or hearing. A speech-language pathologist can identify the disorder and assist your child in improving their speech through therapy. What is the difference between articulation and phonological disorder? Articulation disorder and phonological disorder are often mistaken for each other, but they are different, and the treatments differ as well. Children with articulation disorder find it hard to physically produce specific speech sounds. They may have difficulty coordinating their lips, tongue, teeth, palate, and lungs to create these sounds. This can lead to unclear speech or the replacement of sounds they cannot pronounce. An example of articulation disorder is saying "f" instead of "th."
